The Kentucky Wildcats are off to a fast start and will look to move to 6-0 against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Tuesday night.

With much excitement surrounding the program, comparisons to the 1996 championship team continued on Monday night on Mark Pope’s first ever radio show. Alongside Tom Leach, Coach Pope took the time to talk about the start of the season and take calls from the BBN.

However, one phone call made the difference when Ron called from Tennessee.

It turned out to be Ron Mercer, an All-American forward who was on Kentucky’s 1996 championship team and a runner-up finish in 1997.

With Mercer starting, he compared this team to the 1996 team because they have so many guys who can improve. He was also asked if he would compare himself to anyone on this squad. Jaxson Robinson and Koby Brea received the nod.

A cool story for the first ever Coach Pope show. Be sure to listen to a replay of it here.

Come on, cats!
