Disney is ready to make a splash with the teaser trailer for its live-action remake of Lilo and Stitch.

The new version of director Dean Fleischer Camp’s 2002 animated film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 23, 2025. The main cast includes Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani and Kaipot Dudoit as David Kawena. Rounding out the cast are Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance and Hannah Waddingham, while original voice actors Chris Sanders, Tia Carrere, Amy Hill and Jason Scott Lee will return.

The Lilo and Stitch The trailer shows the titular blue alien causing chaos on the beach. The first film focused on a girl from Hawaii named Lilo who adopts a dog that turns out to be a genetically engineered alien creature with nefarious intentions.

Camp directed the new film from a screenplay by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, based on the 2002 film co-directed by Sanders and Dean DeBlois. Jonathan Eirich and Dan Lin serve as producers.

During a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter to further promote his directing work The wild robotSanders teased his return as the voice of Stitch.

“I could see a few things, but I can’t tell you what I saw,” Sanders said at the time. “But they also allowed me to get some insight into what they wrote, and it’s really cool.”

Camp directed A24’s 2021 Oscar-nominated title Marcel the shell with shoes.

Disney has continued to prioritize its live-action remakes that focus on popular characters. Prequel film from director Barry Jenkins Mufasa: The Lion King hits theaters next month and stars Rachel Zegler Snow White is scheduled to be released in March 2025.
