The players in the Boston Bruins locker room were clear about the role they played in the firing of head coach Jim Montgomery.

And those same players are apparently happy that Montgomery bounced back so quickly.

Montgomery revealed that he received text messages from Bruins players after being named head coach of the St. Louis Blues. Montgomery was named head coach of the Blues just five days after leaving Boston.

“Those are the emotional swings I was talking about that make it crazy,” Montgomery told reporters at Madison Square Garden on Monday in a team-provided video. “I received text messages from current Blues players when I was fired in Boston and I received text messages from Bruins players when I got the job here.

“That’s why I talk about why it’s a special game with the relationships you build with people.”

Montgomery cited the relationships he built in St. Louis as a key factor in his hiring. He served as an assistant coach for the Blues before being hired as the Bruins’ head coach.

Montgomery called it a “whirlwind” week, with congratulatory messages from Bruins players certainly playing a role.
