Brad Marchand also scored two goals and David Pastrnak had three assists for the Bruins (11-10-3), who suffered a 2-0 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Joonas Korpisalo made 21 saves.

“We showed signs last night that we have a chance,” Boston coach Joe Sacco said. “What’s the difference tonight? We just put the puck in the net. I actually thought we played a closer game defensively last night. We didn’t give up as much as we did tonight, but you’re going to have those games, especially when you’re in a back-to-back situation. You have two teams desperate for points. It certainly wasn’t our cleanest game, but that’s hockey. Sometimes you find ways to win when you’re not at your best, and that’s a good sign for our group.”

Brock Nelson scored two goals and an assist and Maxim Tsyplakov had a goal and an assist for the Islanders (8-10-5), who have lost five of their last six games (1-4-1). Ilya Sorokin made 15 saves.

“I feel like we’re playing well. We don’t win. I’m not stupid, I know that. I know it’s a big part of the equation here,” New York coach Patrick Roy said. “What good is it if I only ever focus on the result? I mean, it’s the way we play. We don’t allow 40 shots on goal, but 21. We don’t allow 22 chances to score, but 10-12. So we do a lot of good. I’d rather focus on those things than go to you and say, “Oh yeah, we did this bad thing and that bad thing.” I’d rather focus on the things we do well and hope that works out changes for us. But I realize that in crucial moments we make mistakes that lead to conceding goals, but this is a team game and I will stay by our boys’ side.”
