Ben Affleck bonds with ex-wife Jennifer Garner on Thanksgiving while Jennifer Lopez goes through divorce: ‘He’s very happy’ “You could hear the bang, bang, bang,” witnesses recall of their experiences during the Park Plaza Mall shooting

This year’s NFL Thanksgiving list may not make you as sleepy as all the turkey you’re about to eat, but it’s definitely lost some of its luster since the season.

Between losing streaks and backup quarterbacks, it seems like there isn’t much to be excited about during Thursday’s three-game set. However, in the spirit of the season, we should choose to be grateful for the marathon of football that awaits us.

Here’s what to look for in each game on Thursday.

Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions

These are not your average 4-7 bears. Yes, Chicago has a losing record, but five of its seven losses came in one-possession games. Over the last two weeks, the Bears have been beaten by a total of 4 points – and that doesn’t include the game they lost on a tip-drill Hail Mary.

Be sure to keep an eye on rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who appears to be playing with a bit more vigor since the team fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. In a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 12, Williams threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns. Can he continue his recent streak of success?

The Lions, on the other hand, have become the tyrants of the NFL. They have won nine games in a row. They scored at least 40 points twice. They scored at least 50 points two other times. They have won their last two games 76-12.

Simply put, Detroit has shown no signs of a hangover after their brutal loss in the NFC Championship Game last year. The Lions are an aggressive team that never refuses to take their foot off the gas, whether quarterback Jared Goff has thrown five interceptions or they have a 30-point lead.

If Detroit plays the way it has played all year, it could lead to a situation where Williams gets involved in the first real shootout of his career.

New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys

Insert your favorite GIF of someone cringing, because that’s the kind of pairing only a mom could love.

The Giants will use Tommy DeVito at quarterback and the Cowboys will counter with Cooper Rush.

After a 23-point loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday, New York players openly wondered if the team was too soft. And rookie receiver Malik Nabers not-so-subtly criticized the coaching staff for not including him.

Dallas, on the other hand, is not dead yet! The Cowboys pulled off one of the most bizarre victories of the season in Week 12 when they defeated the Washington Commanders on the road. Rush played his best game of the season and was helped by two kickoff return touchdowns. Dallas won despite missing several field goals and deflecting a punt. (Special teams really were ubiquitous, right?)

Maybe the NFC East gods will add more magic to this game like they did with the Cowboys a week ago. It’s a shame this game won’t have any impact on the playoffs (although it could be crucial to draft order!), but the latest version of Dallas we saw was at least entertaining.

Miami Dolphins vs. Green Bay Packers

If the first two games are dry turkey, then this nightcap is prime rib roast.

Yes, the Dolphins are 5-6, but they’ve been on fire since Tua Tagovailoa returned from a concussion in Week 2. In five games since returning from injury, Tagovailoa has completed 76.5% of his passes, with 11 touchdowns and just one interception. Miami is 3-2 in those games, but both losses came on last-second field goals.

The Dolphins (who have won three straight) will go into this game not only desperately clinging to their slim playoff hopes, but also trying to dispel the narrative that this team can’t play in freezing temperatures.

The Packers have now won six of their last seven games. Despite sitting in third place in a highly competitive NFC North, they are one of the better teams in the conference. And Jordan Love — who, like Tagovailoa, was drafted in 2020 — has what Miami covets so badly: a playoff win.

This game will ultimately be a defining moment for a desperate Dolphins team. Can Tagovailoa and Co. finally hit the road in cold weather and score a big win?
