There was a time — before COVID — when the trend was for stores to stay open on Thanksgiving Day. Then the pandemic-related shutdown led to schedule changes and stores kept their doors closed for the holidays, and most have stuck to that schedule ever since.

Most major retailers, including Walmart and Target, will be closed on Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 28). Kohl’s and Best Buy are also closed. Some grocery stores will also be closed.

Here’s a look at what’s open and closed on Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 28):

Federal offices Closed

State and local offices – Closed

Banks – Closed

Financial markets – NYSE, NASDAQ – Closed

Post Office – Closed, email is not running

UPS, FedEx – Most services will be unavailable. UPS Express Critical will be available as will FedEx Custom Critical.

Stores closed on Thanksgiving

Aldi – Closed

Best buy – Closed

Costco – Closed

Kohl’s – Closed

Publix – Closed

Sam’s Club – Closed

Goal – Closed

Trader Joe’s – Closed

Walgreens – Closed, except for 24-hour locations, which remain open

Walmart Closed

Stores open on Thanksgiving – Check in advance as some locations may have shorter schedules

Bass Pro Shops – 9 a.m. to 6 p.m

Big Lots – 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m

Cabela’s – 9 a.m. – 6 p.m

CVS – 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., opening times may vary

Dollar General – 8 a.m. to 10 p.m

Kroger– Open, opening times vary

sprouts – 7 a.m. to 2 p.m

Starbucks – Opening times vary depending on location

Whole Foods – Holiday times
