MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) –

A strong cold front will move through our area overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. Before that, however, it will be unseasonably warm for Wednesday afternoon with high temperatures reaching the low 70s. Clouds will dominate the sky until the afternoon and it will become noticeably wetter on Wednesday evening.

SEVERE WEATHER SCHEDULE

Patchy showers will occur early Wednesday evening, becoming more isolated as the cold front approaches and begins to cross our area early Thursday morning. Severe parameters begin to increase well before sunrise on Thanksgiving morning, so it is possible for isolated severe storms to develop while many of you sleep. The best time for severe weather (should it occur) is Thursday between 12:00 and 10:00. Damaging winds are the main threat, but tornadoes and storms that can produce heavy hail are also possible.

If you plan to travel on vacation early before sunrise, you don’t want to drive in threatening weather. So this is one of many reasons why you should download our free First Alert Weather app…so you can stay one step ahead of the weather. Even if you are sleeping while storms are approaching, you can be notified: https://www.wtok.com/page/download-our-apps/

Highs Friday afternoon will only reach the mid 50s (about 10 degrees below average).

The first frost of the season is expected this weekend with temperatures around 30 degrees on Saturday morning and over 20 degrees on Sunday morning. Highs will climb back into the mid 50s each weekend afternoon. Still, it looks like values above 20 are possible on both Monday and Tuesday morning, as another blast of colder air is expected Sunday evening.
