UWS Road Closures You Should Know About Due to the Thanksgiving Parade

There’s hardly a busier day on the Upper West Side than the Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the annual event brings street closures in the neighborhood.

The Upper West Side, particularly between West 77th and 59th Streets, fills with millions of people doing their best to watch the passing procession of balloons, floats, marching bands and more.

The parade begins at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at West 77th Street and Central Park West and heads downtown to the Macy’s Herald Square store on West 34th Street.

However, local road closures will begin before the parade begins.

According to Macy’s, the following road closures will begin at midnight Wednesday and continue until noon Thursday.

This means that these streets will remain closed all day on Wednesday, also due to inflation, and then in the first half of Thursday. While Macy’s says on its website that these streets will reopen at noon Thursday, the closures will reopen at the discretion of the NYPD and generally remained closed through Thursday afternoon.

• Central Park West will be closed from West 72nd to 86th Streets.
• West 72nd Street to 85th Street will be closed from Central Park West to Columbus Avenue.
• The 79th Street crossing in Central Park will be closed.

According to the NYPD, there are additional street closures in the neighborhood Thursday. These closures will also reopen “at the discretion of the NYPD.”

The streets already listed above are not included in this list.

• 71st Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue
• 69th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue
• 68th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue
• 67th Street between Columbus and Central Park West
• 66th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
• 65th Street between Columbus and Central Park West
• 64th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
• 63rd Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
• 62nd Street between Central Park West and Broadway
• 61st Street between Columbus Avenue and Broadway
• 60th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
• 59th Street between Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue.
• The entire Columbus Circle.
