A summary that ties it all together and results in a favorable betting result for the UNLV vs. Mississippi State game

UNLV Rebels betting preview

UNLV opened the season with a 4-1 run through its first five games. The Rebels’ only blemish was an 80-74 loss to Memphis on November 9th. Otherwise there were victories over Alabama State, Omaha, Pepperdine and New Mexico State.

On Saturday against the Aggies, the Rebels came out of the locker room with a three-point lead. UNLV managed a 35-31 run the rest of the way and took the win 72-65. Dedan Thomas led the team to victory with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Mississippi State Bulldogs betting preview

Mississippi State’s team also has five games under its belt. Every game so far has been a win for the Bulldogs. They have consecutively defeated West Georgia, Georgia State, Southeastern Louisiana, Utah and SMU.

In Friday’s game against SMU, the Bulldogs were down 38-33 at halftime. However, Mississippi State prevailed in the second half with a score of 51-41 and ultimately took the win 84-79. KeShawn Murphy led the team with 16 points and seven boards.

Why the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels will win

  • UNLV has won five of its last six night games.

Why the Mississippi State Bulldogs will win

  • Mississippi State has won eight of its last nine night games against opponents not ranked in the AP.
  • UNLV has lost four of its last five games at neutral sites.
  • UNLV has lost the first half in four of its last five games against non-conference opponents at neutral sites.

UNLV vs Mississippi State Prediction

I’m staying here at UNLV. The Rebels are coming off a tough win against New Mexico in a game where they made 69 total free throws (42 for UNLV). The Rebels’ rate from the line wasn’t particularly high (71.4 percent), but the 30 extra points helped lead the team to victory despite a rough shooting percentage of 36 percent from the floor. UNLV has scored 72 or more points in all five games so far, including 80 or more in three of them.

As for Mississippi State, they didn’t shoot particularly well against SMU themselves (41.2 percent), but had only seven turnovers and managed a 37-33 advantage in rebounds (16-6 on offense). The Bulldogs have scored 78 or more points in all five games this season. So if both teams are tied on Thursday, we’ll get a pretty high total score. Ultimately, though, I’d like to see UNLV take over in coverage – as long as the Rebels can increase their shooting percentage a bit this time.
