LEWISBURG, Pa. – The University of Delaware men’s swimming and diving team wins the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday, November 23rd.

The Blue Hens scored a total of 1373.5 points and took the win.

RESULTS

  • The third day in a row Matvei Namakonov broke a program record, this time in the 100 free with a time of 43.25. He broke his previous record of 43.55 and earned an NCAA B cut in the process. He finished the event in first place.
  • Namakonov broke the record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 51.63 and the record in the 50 free with a time of 19.72.
  • Addison Collins finished behind Namakonov in the 100 free with a time of 44.14.
  • The duo of Gavin Currie (1:43,18) and Kaloyan Levterov (1:43.96) took first and second place in the 200 dash. Currie received an NCAA B cut.
  • Toni Sabev won the 200-mile race in 2:00.13. Brian Wilbur finished eighth with a time of 2:04.04.
  • Max Moen finished sixth in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.48.
  • Collins’ 400-meter freestyle relay team, James HaneyLevterov and Namakonov finished second in 2:56.82.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s swimming and diving team closed out its home invitational meet in style with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, and a big final day helped the Bison to a second-place finish to Delaware on Sunday at Kinney Natatorium. Freshmen Clara Renner her third second place of the weekend in the mile senior race Skye Sunderhauf He set a major PR with a third-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly, and Bucknell’s strength shone on the final day of competition.

Bucknell reached Sunday night’s finale 12.5 points behind Delaware to finish second in the seven-team field, and the Bison outscored the Blue Hens 468-406.5 to move into second place. Connecticut won the team title with 1,428.5 points, followed by Bucknell (1,231), Delaware (1,182), Davidson (932.5), Fordham (858.5), Seton Hall (650) and UMBC (567.5).

Virginia Hastings, Sarah Ketron, Jennifer BoldenAnd Kyla Kelly combined for a time of 3:23.14 to win the final 400 free relay by seven-tenths of a second over UConn. The Bison passed the Huskies on Ketron’s leg and led the rest of the way out of Lane 1. That was the third-fastest time in Bucknell history and the fastest ever at a non-league championship meet.

Renner, who was second in the 500-meter individual medley and 400-meter individual medley earlier in the meet, finished second again Sunday in the 1,650-meter race behind Seton Hall’s Allie Waggoner. Renner posted a time of 16:33.07, which was the third-fastest time in school history and is already three seconds shy of Kelly Pontecorvo’s 11-year-old school record. Renner’s first 1,000 mark of 10:00.62 also makes her No. 3 all-time. Only two bison have ever broken the 10-minute mark. Only Wagoner, who also became Big East champion in the 500/1650 last season en route to being named Big East Swimmer of the Meet, prevented Renner from winning both the distance free events and the 400 IM this weekend won.

Before her big swim in the 400-meter free relay, Ketron led three Bucknell finalists in the 100-meter free with a fourth-place finish. Her personal best of 50.89 makes her the seventh fastest player in team history. Kelly finished one spot behind in fifth place and Bolden was eighth. Kelly’s 50.98 in the morning prelims was a PR, and she is now No. 9 on Bucknell’s all-time list.

Kelly Byrne posted two sixth-place finishes on Sunday, one in the mile and another later that evening in the 200 breaststroke.

Sunderhauf and Sydney Dettman helped Bucknell’s team solidify second place with a 3-4 performance in the 200-meter butterfly. Sunderhauf’s 2:01.95 was a best by almost a full second, making her the fifth-fastest runner in team history. Dettmann, who is already in fourth place in the 200-meter run, achieved a time of 2:03.64.

Meghan Catherwood led the Bison with a seventh-place finish in the 3-meter diving competition.

Next up for the Bison is the US Open meeting in Greensboro, North Carolina from December 4th to 7th.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bison men’s swimming and diving team had six finalists on Sunday, including an impressive one-two finish Andy Dorselas the three-day Bucknell Invitational came to a close at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison placed fifth with 932.5 points.

Delaware won the meet with 1,373.5 points, followed by UMBC (1,289.5), Seton Hall (1,037.5), Fordham (1,001), Bucknell and Davidson (880).

Dorsel and Chris Kopac were Bucknell’s best drivers on Sunday with two fourth-place finishes. Kopac began the final session with a fourth-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 15:46.78 William Shoemaker was one place back in fifth place.

Dorsel had a busy day in back-to-back events – the 200m breaststroke and the 200m butterfly – reaching the finals in both events. He finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:01.54 and seventh in the 200 fly at 1:52.63.

Will Hedges also reached the final in the 200 m breaststroke, finishing in sixth place. Braden Beagle qualified for the final in the 200 m backstroke and placed eighth.

Justin DiSanto won the B final and secured ninth place in the 100 meter free. He later achieved another impressive performance in the 400 meter free relay. Kopac, Dante Buonadonna, Colin Smithand DiSanto placed fifth in the final relay and her time of 3:00.25 ranks seventh in Bucknell history.

Next up for the Bison is the US Open meeting in Greensboro, North Carolina from December 4th to 7th.

Lewisburg, Pa. – The men’s 400-meter free relay team broke a 10-year-old school record as the UMBC swimming and diving teams capped a successful weekend at the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday.

The team of Boris Milev, Sean Neils, Christian Coleman And Bode Neale took gold in 2:56.43, breaking the old record of 2:56.57 set in 2014.

On the women’s side Ember Stennett made it to the final in the 3-meter jump in the extremely competitive 30-person field.

“(The women) made several big strides as a program this weekend,” head coach said Matt Donovan. “Everyone got better in some way and as a program we got a lot closer to our goals for the season. We look forward to the next few months to see how we cross the finish line as a team. (For the men) From start to finish, this was our best invitational meet since America East 2023. “We look forward to getting healthy over the next few months, refining the team and getting back to where we know we can be.”

Makaela Hill improved her lead time to sixth place in the 100m free in a time of 51.13 Bruna de Padua finished 10th overall in the 1650 race with a time of 17:20:51.

In the men’s 200-meter dash, Gassmann took third place with a time of 1:47.97, narrowly missing out on second place. In 1650 Nick Zaharescu finished eighth with a time of 15:59.97.

The men finished second overall (out of six) with a score of 1,289.50, while the women achieved 567.50 points in a highly competitive field.

The Retrievers return to the pool on Saturday, December 7th when they host a split meet. The diving team faces Towson and Loyola Maryland at 8:30 a.m., followed by the swimming team against Frostburg State and Mount St. Mary’s at 1 p.m
