Because of this accident, the Turkey Trot took on new meaning this year. The route was changed so people could honor the victims. Piedmont Mayor Jen Cavenaugh said: “I would like to ask you to observe a moment of silence for the families who are still recovering, for the grieving families who have lost their loved ones, for everyone whose loved ones.” “Many hugged , cried and held each other at the Piedmont Turkey Trot as they observed a moment of silence for the three young people who died in a fiery accident early Wednesday morning. Another person was critically injured. Mayor Cavenaugh told the crowd, “I know we will get through this together, and I know that when we feel hopeless, the only thing we can do is help to help others.” The 23rd annual Walk and Run was an opportunity to grieve together and comfort one another. 1,500 flowers were donated. Kairo Osman and Nathaniel Shrewsberry were teammates of two of the victims at Piedmont High and took flowers in their honor. Osman said: “It’s good to see the power of community and how much we can come together. “Show your love to the families and everyone who is struggling right now.” Shrewsberry added: “The community really loved her It’s only fitting that people show their respect. “Police say a Tesla Cybertruck with four people inside jumped the curb, crashed into a concrete wall and became trapped between the wall and a tree before bursting into flames around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. After the solo accident, a driver in a second car traveling behind the truck pulled a person from the burning truck – an action that the Piedmont Fire Chief said may have saved a life. Piedmont’s police chief says speed was likely a factor in the crash and they are still investigating. At least 2,400 took part in this Turkey trot. The close-knit community made sure to take time before Thanksgiving dinner to honor those who died.
