ForbesToday’s word number 1258 with tips, hints and answers for Thursday, November 28th

Thanksgiving has come and gone. I hope you had a great time and just want to say that I am very grateful to you, dear Wordlers, and your continued visits to this column.

While Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, the day after is not. However, I’ll refrain from a Black Friday rant because I realize that the good deals are exciting and entertaining for many shoppers. There’s nothing wrong with that (although I find the whole idea of getting up very early to stand in line at a Walmart in the dark and cold rather hellish – at least we can do a lot of Black Friday shopping online now!)

It’s also 2XP Friday, but since it’s Black Friday I decided to make it 3XP Friday, meaning you triple your profits (or losses). How are the apples?

Let’s make this Wordle!

Can you solve today’s sentence?

So close and yet so far. I almost made it in three, but I didn’t even think about the second option. SPOUT wasn’t a great start, but after throwing CRANE into the second guess I was down to two words to choose from. I was so sure it was just the one watch that I was quite dismayed when the “L” turned gray. CHOCK for the win. I guess we can chalk that up to bad luck.

Worth knowing: The word Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is an ironically named phobia that describes the fear of long words. We have our hippos to thank for this. And a nameless and witty linguist who combined the word “sesquipedalian” (meaning “long word”) with “hippopotamus” and “monstrous” to invent perhaps the cleverest and most difficult-to-spell phobia in existence.
