To answer a question some still have after the seemingly conclusive season two finale of Arcane: No, there will not be a third season. It was never planned for there to be one. Instead, we’ve been hearing for a while that other League of Legends-based shows are in development, and now, after this finale, we have more information.

Arcane co-creator Christian Linke revealed this three Shows are in development, series in three regions: Noxus, Ionia and Demacia. One of those shows – he wouldn’t say which – has already been in development for a year, meaning we’ll hopefully be able to see it in about two years instead of three, shorter than the time span between Arcane’s two seasons. Given that all three are in production and not just in conception, that’s a good indicator that they’ll all see the light of day one day.

My guess is that given how heavily represented Noxus was in Arcane, this could be the first, but we don’t know for sure. If you’re looking for a possible cast list, here are some of the more well-known League heroes from each of these regions:

NOXUS:

  • Darius
  • Draven
  • Riven
  • Katarina
  • Cassiopeia
  • Swain
  • LeBlanc
  • Talon
  • Sion
  • Samira
  • Vladimir
  • Rell

IONIA:

  • Ahri
  • Akali
  • Irelia
  • karma
  • Know
  • Lee Sin
  • Master Yi
  • Shen
  • Zed
  • Yasuo
  • Yes
  • Jhin
  • Sett
  • Syndra
  • Lillia
  • Xayah
  • Rakan

DEMACIA:

  • Ferment
  • lux
  • Jarvan IV
  • Fiora
  • Xin Zhao
  • Vayne
  • Quinn
  • Shyvana
  • Sona
  • poppy
  • Sylas
  • Kayle

One reason I think Noxus comes first is that there was a clear nod to Swain at the end of the finale when we see his raven make a cameo. And once again, a large part of this story was based on the Noxus forces with Ambessa in Piltover.

But you can see here what Riot’s vision is, that it has a massive roster of characters and stories to draw from. However, while most League fans enjoy Arcane, there are complaints that the events of the series rewrote a lot of existing lore about Piltover and its main characters, which would undoubtedly apply to other featured regions as well. But I suspect Riot might not care about that since they’ve now created one of the best animated media properties of all time and storytelling takes precedence.

It probably won’t be until 2026 or 2027 before we see a new Arcane series. I wonder how this will all work with Fortiche, the French animation studio that brought Arcane to such an unprecedentedly beautiful level, considering they may have done it four Shows to work on and I don’t think anyone would want to see them not-Fortiche animation considering what Arcane has given us so far. Hopefully they can handle it.
