SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Good Things Utah) – “The Not-So-Secret Lives of Real Mormon Wives” was released less than 70 days after the much-talked-about release of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” on Hulu last fall. The new book features first-person accounts from eight Latter-day Saint believers, two of whom were on set with us this morning. Mental health educator Ganel-lyn Condie and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Allison Hong Merrill say the hit Hulu show has sparked a conversation they say needs to continue.

Both women say members of The Church of Jesus Christ or Latter-day Saints are represented in popular culture by a range of stereotypes and caricatures that do not do justice to the lives of their members. The women wanted to use the word “real” to express their effort to accurately represent the lives of these and many other women.

Each woman was given two dozen pages to share her thoughts. Merrill says she was born and raised in the slums of Taiwan and wants people to read her story contained in the book and know that there is “hope to find lasting joy” for everyone. Condie says she shares her life journey and challenges and how she got to where she is today. “That’s why I love this project so much, because each of the women in the book are just as amazing as Allison and inspiring and have their own journey.”
