The Evil The film has already created a lot of buzz and now it looks like it could lead to a big change for the Broadway musical.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo star as Glinda and Elphaba in Jon M. Chu’s big-screen adaptation of the Broadway musical, which was inspired by the 1995 book. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the Westby Gregory Maguire.

The musical deals with the origin story of the two powerful witches. Despite coming from different backgrounds, the two form an unlikely friendship that will determine the course of their lives.

The film contains all the songs from the Broadway musical composed by Stephen Schwartz. After the overwhelmingly positive response to the film, he is now considering adapting an update of the song “Popular” to the stage musical, which originally premiered in 2003.

At the end of “Popular,” Grande sings in a higher octave and repeats the “la-la” line a few more times.

“One thing I definitely would have done, and who knows, maybe we’ll put it in the stage musical afterward, is the new ending to ‘Popular,'” Schwartz said Buzzfeed UK. “Ariana really wanted to stay true to the original song and be Glinda and not Ariana Grande playing Glinda.”

He also shared how Grande initially reacted to the ideas for a new ending.

“When I started this new ending, she was hesitant at first. I said, ‘If I had thought of this (ending) back then, I would have done it.’ That’s what I think could find its way back into the stage musical,” he shared. “She uses her soprano there. We just didn’t think about it when we did the show.”

Schwartz also revealed in a separate interview that he was considering a new hip-hop-inspired version of the song for Grande to sing, but it was quickly scrapped by the “7 Rings” hitmaker.

“In the spirit of being open to new things for the film, my music team and I thought, let’s freshen up the rhythm,” he said The times. “Let’s maybe, I don’t know, do some hip-hop. Ariana said, ‘No way, don’t do it.’ I want to be Glinda, not Ariana Grande playing Glinda.”

However, Grande agreed to the new ending. “I told her that if I had come up with it for the original show, it would have been like that. Once she was sure that this new piece of music came out of her character, she agreed.”

This comes after the new film’s director hit back at claims that the film looked “washed out” in theaters.
