The Chiefs narrowly escape another weak opponent with a bizarre ending against the Raiders and secure the playoff spot

Things don’t always look pretty for the Kansas City Chiefs, but they’ve somehow found a way to get it back on track.

After blowing a 13-point lead, the Chiefs beat the Las Vegas Raiders 19:17 on Black Friday.

Less than a week after the Chiefs needed a field goal to beat the Carolina Panthers by three, time ran out and they took the win in bizarre fashion on Friday.

After the two-minute warning, the Raiders trailed by two players with no timeouts and quickly got into field goal range. But with 15 seconds left, rookie center Jackson Powers-Johnson grabbed the ball too early and the Chiefs recovered.

The Raiders argued it was a false start that negated the fumble. But the referees ruled it was an illegal move and the Chiefs declined the penalty, giving them the ball and the win.

The Chiefs were up 16-3 late in the third quarter, but the Raiders never gave up. Aidan O’Connell hit Brock Bowers for a 33-yard touchdown, and after forcing a three-and-out, O’Connell hit Tre Tucker for a 58-yard touchdown. The PAT gave them a 17-16 lead early in the fourth period.

Kansas City responded with its fourth field goal of the game to retake the lead, but the Raiders moved the ball again in the final minutes. On 4th-and-11, with 2:21 left, the Raiders attempted a 58-yard field goal, but it was no good.

However, the Chiefs gave the ball back to Las Vegas after the two-minute warning after throwing the ball on 3rd-and-2 while the Raiders did not have a timeout. However, the Raiders continued marching and quickly reached the 40-yard line.

With a touchdown pass to Justin Watson, Patrick Mahomes became the Chiefs’ all-time leader in touchdown passes, surpassing legend Len Dawson. Mahomes now has 238 passing touchdowns in just under seven full seasons.

The win clinched a playoff spot for the Chiefs, who will play postseason football for the 10th consecutive year. They improved to 11-1 and tied with the Detroit Lions for the best record in football.

While Chiefs kicker Matthew Wright made it 4-4 on his kicks, the Raiders’ Daniel Carlson missed three of them, all from well over 50 yards. It was also Kansas City’s ninth win this year with just one possession.

The Raiders fell to 2-10 and were eliminated from the playoffs, joining the New York Giants.
