Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Sunday’s win over New England, the NFL announced Wednesday.

It is Tagovailoa’s third AFC Offensive Player of the Week award overall and Miami’s first AFC Offensive Player of the Week award since running back Raheem Mostert earned the award in Week 6 of the 2023 season against Carolina.

Tagovailoa joins Buffalo’s Josh Allen and Tennessee’s Nick Folk as one of only three players in the league to earn Player of the Week honors in each of the last three seasons. Tagovailoa received the award in Week 2 of the 2022 season with Baltimore and in Week 1 of the 2023 season with the LA Chargers.

Tagovailoa faced eight different pass catchers against the Patriots and led the Dolphins to their third straight win in one of the best performances of his career. He completed 29 of 40 passes (72.5 percent) for 317 yards and four touchdowns for a passer rating of 128.9. He led the NFL in Week 12 with a 128.9 passer rating and four touchdown throws, while his 317 passing yards were the most in the AFC. It was also Tagovailoa’s fifth consecutive game with a completion percentage above 70.0, marking the longest active streak in the NFL and the longest of his career.

Tagovailoa got Miami’s offense going in the second quarter, scoring on all four of the team’s possessions. He completed 15 of 21 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns with a passer rating of 137.5 in the quarter, marking the second time in his career that Tagovailoa has passed for at least three touchdowns and 175 yards in a single quarter. He then led Miami to a field goal with two seconds left in the half and finished the quarter with 24 points scored, tied for the second-most points scored by a team in a quarter this season.

Tagovailoa currently leads the NFL with a completion percentage of 73.3, putting him on pace to break his career best and top the Miami record books. He now ranks fifth this year with a passer rating of 106.3. He has completed 170 of 232 passes for 1,760 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions this season.
