Sydney Sweeney goes for monochrome suits at the opening of RH Newport

Sydney Sweeney embraced the monochrome trend in her own way at a recent event. At the NH Newport opening, the actress wore a cropped version of a tailored suit.

Sweeney opted for gray Tom Ford suits, pairing the designer’s double-breasted wool blazer with a backless halter vest and mini skort. She paired the trio with a diamond necklace and a pair of pointed bow heels. Sweeney was styled for the occasion by Molly Dickson, who also curated the “Anyone But You” star’s looks for the 2024 Met Gala.

“This was Sydney’s first appearance since she was away for filming, so we were excited to do something different,” Dickson told WWD exclusively about the custom look. “As always, we took the location of the event into account and being in Newport we wanted something that was effortless, yet elegant for an evening event.”

Dickson also gave a nod to the fact that suits have been trending heavily over the past year, with labels like Schiaparelli, Gucci, Ferragamo, Stella McCarthy, Givenchy and Prada, among others, introducing new takes on suits for fall 2024. “There are such great suits for fall and I love suits because of their inherent flexibility — wear them as a complete set or break them down into pieces and then do it again,” Dickson said, adding, “We had other options.” It was more cocktail dresses, particularly a bright red cocktail dress, but since the event was with Restoration Hardware, we felt this Tom Ford suit set was the perfect complement to the brand’s aesthetic – cool, relaxed, but still luxurious.”

Sweeney has made a name for herself in suits before: She opted for a mint green version in a Thom Browne look in May 2023 when she stopped by the “Today” show to promote her film “Reality” on HBO . For the event, Sweeney paired a pastel green blazer with a striped pleated skirt, a polka dot tie and ankle socks with pointed heels. Sweeney also chose to wear Thom Browne suits at a “Euphoria” FYC event in Los Angeles in December 2022, with a skirt suit, bow-tie shirt and tube socks with platform sandals.
