Those looking for alternative programming to family and football this Thanksgiving may find their city featured in a new holiday film.

The movie “Sweethearts” will stream on Max Thanksgiving Day.

The production reported spending more than $19 million filming in New Jersey, the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission told NJ Advance Media.

“Sweethearts,” starring Kiernan Shipka (“Mad Men,” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) and Nico Hiraga (“Booksmart,” “Goodrich”), is about two college freshmen, Jamie and Ben, who make a breakup pact with their high school classmates. Favorites during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The film (see trailer below) follows their efforts to complete this mission as they return to their hometown.

Jordan Weiss, creator of the Hulu series “Dollface,” directed the film, her feature debut, which she co-wrote with Dan Brier (“Heathers”).

In addition to Shipka (25) and Hiraga (26), the cast includes comedians Caleb Hearon, Tramell Tillman (“Severance”), Ava DeMary (“After Yang”) and Charlie Hall (“Single Drunk Female”, “Bel-Air”) ) to see. , Joel Kim Booster (“Fire Island,” “Loot”) and Christine Taylor (“Zoolander,” “Search Party”).

Connections to Jersey can also be found in two other cast members: Jake Bongiovi, 22, son of Jon Bon Jovi and husband of “Stranger Things” superstar Millie Bobby Brown; and “Saturday Night Live” alum Chloe Troast, 27, who grew up in Ho-Ho-Kus.

“Sweethearts,” arriving at Max via New Line Cinema, filmed in 11 Jersey cities and towns across six counties in 2022 (see full list below).

The film was shot at Ramapo College in Mahwah and in homes in Cranford, Newark, Demarest and Kinnelon.

Other filming locations in Cranford included the Cranford Theater, Délice Macarons and Eastman Clock Plaza.

“Sweethearts” was also filmed at the Edison High School football field and at both the West Orange Fire Station No. 3 on Ridgeway Avenue and the Demarest Firehouse.

The production came to the Colonial Diner in Lyndhurst; Parkway Lanes bowling alley on Route 46 in Elmwood Park; Duffy’s Tavern in Paterson (clearly visible in the picture above); and UFCW Local 1262 (United Food & Commercial Workers Union) in Clifton.
