An actress named Neri was arrested for alleged estafa and violation of the Securities Regulation Act.

According to a statement from the Southern Police District, the 41-year-old actress and businesswoman was served with the arrest warrant on November 23 at a convention center in the basement of a mall in Pasay City.

She is facing an estafa case related to Presidential Decree 1689, which increases the punishment for estafa “committed by a syndicate composed of five or more persons formed with the intention of carrying out the unlawful or illegal act, to carry out the transaction, undertaking or plan.”

Syndicated estafa results in the embezzlement of funds contributed by shareholders, members of cooperatives or associations or solicited from the public.

She also faces 14 counts of violating Section 28 of Republic Act 8799 or the Securities Regulation Code, which provides provisions for the registration of brokers, dealers, salespeople and other related persons.

Although police did not fully identify the actress, GMA News Online has reached out to Neri Naig for comment. As of this writing she has not responded.
