Source – Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito took a long shot to play against the Cowboys

New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito is expected to play against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday because of a forearm injury, a source told ESPN on Wednesday.

Drew Lock is about to make his first start of the season for the Giants. Tim Boyle would be his replacement.

DeVito is officially listed as questionable and was listed as not participating in Wednesday’s walk-through practice.

He did not travel with the team to Dallas on Wednesday as he underwent further evaluation, the Giants said. However, the team said it expects him to travel to Dallas later Wednesday.

DeVito took several big hits in Sunday’s 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He made his first start of the season after the Giants released former starter Daniel Jones late last week.

Coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that DeVito wasn’t 100 percent ready to play because of his injury. The Giants (2-9) also have a short week with just four days between games.

DeVito said after Tuesday’s walk-through, in which he had limited participation, that he still wasn’t sure if he could throw at full speed yet. His body was still feeling the effects of four sacks and nine quarterback hits on Sunday.

“I think if it were a normal week, Tuesday is usually when things settle into the body. If you get hit on Sunday, Monday is usually a bit sore; Tuesday is usually the worst day,” DeVito said. “So it usually helps to have an extra four or five days afterward, whatever it is.”

DeVito was surprisingly named the Giants’ starting quarterback in place of Jones on November 18 after spending the first ten games of the season as a third-stringer. He completed 21 of 31 passes for 189 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions against the Bucs.

But the second-year undrafted free agent suffered some big losses in the competition. He left the game on the final drive before returning one play later. DeVito then suffered another serious blow before time expired.
