Kentucky’s win over Western Kentucky wasn’t the prettiest and fans weren’t thrilled with the performance. But a look at the numbers shows how unique the victory was. Despite shooting difficulties, the Wildcats dominated and earned a 19-point victory at Rupp Arena, 87-68.

Historical statistics to consider

Corey Price, a basketball tweet fanatic from Kentucky, pointed out some fascinating tidbits about the game:

Find the positive in winning

Although fans may have been frustrated by the inconsistency, Kentucky showed its resilience. Their defense held Western Kentucky to just 30.3% shooting in the first half and helped the Wildcats build a comfortable lead despite their offensive woes. Every time Western tried to cut the lead, the Cats kept increasing it.

On offense, Andrew Carr and Otega Oweh made decisive plays for the win. Kentucky converted just enough free throws to keep the game out of reach. But things have to be better from the start, and even five more points will make the game appear in a completely different light.

Looking ahead

While this wasn’t the sparkling performance fans were hoping for, it’s clear that the Wildcats can win even when they’re not at their best.

This courage could prove crucial as the season progresses. For now, Big Blue Nation can celebrate another double-digit win and looks forward to the team finding more consistency.
