With Saquon Barkley moving to the Philadelphia Eagles before this season after his tenure with the New York Giants, the start couldn’t have been better.

The former Penn State star running back was sensational for his new team, and that was highlighted by his career day on Sunday Night Football when he passed for 255 yards and two touchdowns while totaling 302 yards.

He set the Eagles’ franchise record for most rushing yards in a game and the ninth-highest single-game total in NFL history.

Barkley has already surpassed his career high for rushing yards in a season with six games left to play.

Penn State fans have long known what a good player he is, but after a difficult time with the Giants that was marred by injuries and marred by poor offensive play, he can finally showcase his talents on the national stage again .

Barkley has a real chance to reach the coveted 2,000-yard mark this season, something only eight other running backs in NFL history have ever accomplished. The last person to do so was future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson in 2012, who passed for the second-most yards ever with 2,097 yards.

Peterson also won MVP that year, the last time a non-quarterback won the award.

Barkley has given himself a real chance to make history this year if he can reach that plateau, and based on his performance, there’s a good chance he can reach it if he stays healthy.

Philadelphia has now won seven games in a row, and the former Nittany Lions’ outstanding performance is one of the main reasons he continues to put up eye-popping numbers that could make his season one of the best in the history of the sport.
