NEW YORK CITY – The 98th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade ushers in the most wonderful time of the year on Thursday, November 28th – and New York City will have to close several streets along the parade route to make room for the magic.

Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s parade, including a list of road closures, the parade route and the best places to watch.

This year’s parade begins at 8:30 a.m

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route map

The parade’s 2.5-mile route begins at West 77th Street and Central Park West on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

• The parade first heads south 18 blocks through Central Park West to Columbus Circle.
• From Columbus Circle, the parade turns onto Central Park South and heads east to 6th Avenue.
• From Central Park South and 6th Avenue, the parade turns onto 6th Avenue and heads south to 34th Street.
• The parade then marches 25 blocks south from 6th Avenue to 34th Street.
• From 34th Street, the parade turns west onto 7th Avenue.
• The end point of the parade is Macy’s Herald Square at 34th Street and 7th Avenue.

Where you SHOULD watch the parade

According to Macy’s West 59th to West 38th Street along 6th Avenue will provide parade goers with a great view.

Early risers can also head to the west side Central Park between West 75th Street and West 61st Streetnear the parade starting point, beginning at 6 a.m. for public viewing.

Where NOT to watch the parade

The public will not be permitted to watch the parade begin at West 77th Street and Central Park West.

Further south, gathering near the parade turnaround point at Columbus Circle is not permitted.

The national television broadcast will take place between West 38th Street and West 34th Street and will be closed to the public. There will also be no public viewing at Macy’s Herald Square at the end of the parade. This includes West 34th Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue.

Macy’s limited edition grandstand tickets are not available to the general public.

What you should know about this year’s parade

The Christmas season really begins when the giant helium balloons float through New York. For the second consecutive year, the parade begins at 8:30 a.m. on November 28 in all time zones and will be broadcast on NBC, via antenna or on cable and satellite providers. For cord cutters, the parade will be simulcast on Peacock and an encore broadcast will begin at 2:00 p.m. ET/PT. A Spanish-language simulcast will also air on Telemundo. This year is more starry than ever. Grammy, Oscar, Emmy and Tony winner Jennifer Hudson will perform, as will global pop icon and Grammy winner Kylie Minogue and Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner Billy Porter.
