The Philadelphia Phillies want to trade Alec Bohm and build a roster to reach the World Series. They could move Bohm for an All-Star to bolster their bullpen.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Bohm is “on the trade” and could get a superstar. Jim Bowden of The Athletic explained this trade proposal that sends Bohm to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Devin Williams:

  • Phillies received: Right-handed pitcher Devin Williams
  • Brewers receive: third baseman Alec Bohm and a prospect

“The Phillies need an elite, high-leverage right-handed hitter and I think this deal makes a lot of sense for them, especially if they could turn around and sign either Alex Bregman or Willy Adames to replace Bohm at the hot corner.” wrote Bowden.

Williams is a two-time All-Star and two-time Trevor Hoffman Reliever of the Year. Spotrac predicts he will sign a five-year, $70 million contract when he enters free agency after this season. The Brewers generally do not hand out such contracts. They also have a track record of trading star pitchers before entering free agency. Just last season they traded Corbin Burnes. A few seasons ago they shocked Josh Hader.

“I also like this trade from the Brewers’ perspective because Bohm would clear third base and replace Adames in their lineup, allowing Ortiz to play shortstop while Brice Turang remained at second,” Bowden wrote.

Bohm had a breakout year with the Phillies. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career. He hit 15 home runs and had a .280 batting average.
