Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy has no one to blame but himself for a 3-9 season that ended with a 52-0 loss to Colorado. CBS Sports’ Shehan Jeyarajah called the Cowboys’ campaign “uniquely embarrassing.”

“This Oklahoma State collapse is one of the craziest I’ve seen in my more than a decade of covering the Big 12. They brought back almost every starter! Just such a uniquely embarrassing year,” Jeyarajah wrote.

Oklahoma State should be a Big 12 contender. At the end of the season, as underdogs against CU, they couldn’t even come close to erasing a three-point lead. To say the Cowboys dropped the ball is an understatement.

KOCO-TV’s Bryan Keating summarized the stunning crash similarly to Jeyarajah; This proves that the media consensus has turned completely against Gundy at this point.

“I’m not saying Mike Gundy is fired or should be fired, but he has to fight for his job and convince a lot of people that he still wants to and can do it. For there is no worse coached team in the country than his,” Keating wrote.

The way Oklahoma State lost seems to indicate that the Pokes locker room no longer sees Gundy as a true leader. The offensive line couldn’t protect Maealiuaki Smith, but the freshman gunslinger was already ineffective. Four Oklahoma State running backs combined for 90 yards. The defense rolled over for Shedeur Sanders (34/41, 438 yards, five touchdowns), Travis Hunter (116 yards, three touchdowns) and LaJohntay Wester (175 yards, two touchdowns).

Gundy may not be fired since he is a year removed from an appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game.

Another year or even another six months will undoubtedly mark the end of his time in Stillwater.
