Earlier this season, the New England Patriots lost star safety Jabrill Peppers due to concerning off-field issues. He was arrested in October on charges including strangulation and drug possession.

Since then, there have been questions about whether or not Peppers would ever play for the Patriots again.

Now there is more news about the situation.

According to Mike Reiss from ESPNPeppers was reinstated and is no longer on the commissioner’s exempt list. That could mean the safety will return to the field for New England in the near future.

Of course, this has to be confirmed by the Patriots. No one should rush into expectations that he will be back on the field right away. However, there is reason for optimism that secondary education will see a significant upturn.

During the 2024 NFL season, Peppers played in four games. In these appearances he had 23 tackles, one interception and two passes defended.

At 29 years old, Peppers was a key leader on New England’s defense. His loss was a huge blow to the secondary and the entire defense.

Peppers is also under contract for next season. If the legal issues are resolved, he would likely be a starter at safety in 2025. Having him back would be a huge boost.

Obviously the situation is fluid and there is no official word on when he will be back on the field. It’s a big step in that direction, but nothing is set in stone yet.

That being said, this is clearly big news, even though the team has already been eliminated from the playoffs with a record of 3-9. Having Peppers back with the team and playing a key role again in 2025 could help fill a potential offseason need.
