Like every new year, there are a host of major and minor changes coming to Summoner’s Rift as Riot Games takes the opportunity to innovate and improve the gaming experience for players and professionals.

The first season theme, Noxus, introduces new boot upgrades, new gameplay mechanics, items, runes, ranked reset changes, as well as a new theme map and new epic jungle monster.

Here you can read in detail about Atakhan, the new epic jungle monster, and how it affects the timing of Rift Herald and Baron.

List of all new boot upgrades for Summoner’s Rift in Season 1 2025

Tier 3 boot upgrades

Noxian-style boot upgrades are available via a new mechanic called Feats of Strength.

Players can only gain access to these new boot upgrades if they meet these requirements – be the first team to complete two of the following three objectives:

  • first blood
  • first tower
  • the first three epic jungle monsters (Dragon, Herald, any three Void Maggots)

Feats of Strength slightly improve the stats of the team’s Tier 2 boots and unlock the aforementioned Tier 3 Noxian boots upgrades.

Even if you haven’t upgraded your boots to level 2, Feats are permanent. You will receive the benefits automatically as soon as you make your purchase.

If you are on the Feat-winning team and have completed two legendary items, you can spend gold to upgrade your boots to level 3, which will grant you another small stat bonus and a unique effect depending on which boots you have upgraded.

New item “Curse of the Bloodletter” added to Summoner’s Rift

Bloodletter’s Curse reduces the target’s magic resistance through repeated ability hits, so Cassiopeia is the perfect champion to build this. Think of it as a black hatchet, but for magicians.

Technically it’s not a completely new item as it was present in Arena. Here is the official description in game mode:

“When you deal magic damage to an enemy champion, they gain a stack for 6 seconds, stacking up to 6 times. Each stack reduces magic resistance by 5%, with 6 stacks reducing magic resistance by up to 30%. Damaging basic attacks and spells can only apply a stack once every 2 seconds.”

In addition, minor adjustments to the tank items can be expected.

New runes that affect vision have been added to the Dominion Tree, as well as a new addition to the Magic Tree

Deep Ward, Sixth Sense and Grisly Memento are new runes you will see in the Domination tree that rebalance the Vision-related options.

Sixth Sense will automatically track nearby enemy protection if you cannot already see or track it. If
If you are a melee champion, it has a 300 second cooldown. If you are a ranged user, the cooldown is 360 seconds.

Starting at level 11, this rune not only tracks enemy defenses, but also exposes them for 10 seconds, giving you a chance to take them out.

Grisly Memorabilia grants an infinitely stacking ability speed of 5 trinkets when a champion is defeated. In modes where this doesn’t make sense, such as B. ARAM, the user gains 3 Ultimate Skill Haste instead.

In the magic tree, Axiom Arcanist is a brand new addition that increases the damage, healing or shielding of your ultimate ability and gives you back some of the cooldown on takedowns. It replaces the Nullifying Orb.

“We wanted to add a rune that appeals to the wizarding fantasy and has a clearly defined user base that can compete with the Manaflow gang for those who use it and give players a more interesting choice when loading their game” , Riot Games explains in their developer blog.

Game-changing adjustments to Nexus turrets

For as long as League of Legends existed, Nexus turrets were permanently removed from the map once they were destroyed.

LoL players know all too well how difficult it can be to defend an open nexus that also invites backdoors.

All of that will change in the first season of 2025, as Nexus turrets can now respawn after a set amount of time after being destroyed. The reason? It gives teams on the verge of defeat a lifeline and increases their chances of a comeback.

Teleport is no longer instantaneous

The Summoner Spell Teleport no longer causes the champion to flash immediately after being channeled, but instead causes the champion to visually move across the map.

Unleashed Teleport causes the champion to move faster while teleporting.

The Ranked Season reset has been reset: we’re back to just one at the start of the year

The ranking system (visible rank and MMR) returns to a single major reset at the start of each year in January, with no further resets throughout the year.

Voting for the January reset – including the size of the reset, the average number of games required to advance, and related elements – follows similar patterns to 2022 and earlier.

However, Riot is still limiting itself to three Victorious skins per year, which is good news for players. There will be one per season. To unlock each season’s skin, players must win 15 ranked matches that season.
