As of Tuesday around 10:45 p.m., the runoff election for the Mississippi Supreme Court Central District had still not been called, making it a neck-and-neck race.

The campaigns of incumbent Jim Kitchens and challenger Jenifer Branning confirmed they were no longer expecting full results Tuesday evening. As of 10:45 p.m., less than 600 votes separated the candidates, with Branning holding a slight lead in a race of just over 117,000 votes, more than 91% of expected turnout.

“There seems to be more and more (elections that aren’t called on Election Day), and so we expected that,” said Lin Floyd of Branning’s campaign. “We’ll wait and see where we are tomorrow morning.”
