More than 1,000 workers at 11 unionized New Seasons Market stores will go on strike Wednesday.

The union says it tried to reach an agreement with the company. In a statement, the union wrote: “We have done our best to offer the company numerous options to avert a strike by ending its unfair labor practices and offering our members a deal that meets their needs, but they refuse.” We hope the company recognizes the urgency and importance of a meaningful economic response and acts in good faith to avert a strike.”

The strike is scheduled to take place during regular store opening hours between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. and employees are calling on customers to boycott the stores as well.

A company spokesperson responded to the union’s claims: “New Seasons Market’s employees are the heart of our company, and we respect NSLU’s right to engage in this protected activity, which is common practice in collective bargaining.” We remain focused minimizing disruption so we can provide our customers with the service they expect from New Seasons Market.”

New Seasons stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and will reopen on Black Friday. No further strikes are planned. Both sides will return to the negotiating table on Monday, December 2nd.
