Chad Michael Murray’s career hasn’t really been plagued by scandals or riddled with tabloid misconceptions that claimed the actor was something he wasn’t.

His longevity in the industry is unique for someone like Murray, who first worked as a model before being cast in a litany of handsome heartthrob roles in TV shows and films that have proven to be defining works in the millennial psyche.

The One Tree Hill actor, now 43 and a father of three children under the age of 10, believes that life is better when God and family come first, which is why he has found great success.

“I’m a firm believer that for us – and again, this has worked for us – it’s all about having a foundation,” he told Fox News Digital while touting his partnership with Walmart for the “Deals of Desire.” campaign on Black Friday.

“You have to have a strong foundation to know that your actions in life have consequences. And with God we really succeeded.”

“We don’t live in a bubble by any means. But we just love the big, love the strength. We love everyone. So we go through our lives every day, just trying to live the way we see fit.” Right? Through love. By putting God and family first, it helps us navigate every other decision we make in our lives.

“It helps avoid bad situations,” he continued. “By saying, ‘You know what, this is probably not a good idea. Let’s not go there.’ Correct? So I don’t end up in places I shouldn’t be. We make good decisions.

“It could be something as simple as walking into the grocery store and someone is in a bad mood,” he said. “The reaction you might have would be to comply… and then it might become something you don’t want to deal with. Or you’re trying to balance it with love, and suddenly the simplest gesture, you know, changes someone’s day.”

Prioritizing God and family also means Murray’s unit travels as a whole. After recently celebrating his 10th wedding anniversary with his wife and actress Sarah Roemer, he spoke about the importance of maintaining his family’s unity.

“We put God and family first. That’s what we do in this family. And if that means I don’t take a gig, then I don’t take a gig. It’s that simple. …If I need to change course.” “I change course,” he explained. “At the end of the day, if I can’t celebrate it with my family, none of it is worth it. Point.”

To ensure success, Murray said he and his family would not separate.

“We travel everywhere together. You know, I don’t spend a day apart. We are not breaking up the pack,” he explained. “You know, the whole family goes, the whole pack goes, or no one goes.”

Murray said he and Roemer developed this concept long before they started their family: “When we got married, I looked at her and said, ‘Look… I want to do this in a very traditional way.’ It’s all or nothing to make sure we don’t have to deal with all of these things with children.”

“That’s what we agreed to and we felt very comfortable with it,” Murray said, before praising his wife for being an incredible mother. “It’s the hardest job in the world, period. And she’s so good at it. She is that good. And I love being a father. And I wouldn’t have it any other way but for her (me) to be there.” This year, even though I’m filming, I was able to watch my baby’s first steps. So I’m still able to come home and see her.

“It would be so hard to be away from them. I don’t think I would be anywhere near the capacity I am now if they weren’t with me every day.”

Murray recently joined a new team by working with Walmart for its “Deals of Desire” campaign, which was a very different experience than what he was used to.

“I thought this whole campaign and the idea behind it was so brilliant, it was so interesting. I had never seen anything like it. And when I first looked at the kind of outline of what we were going to accomplish here, it just felt so right that I laughed hysterically and still wanted to engage in this drama even though I knew that We’re actually just intermediaries to talk about these deals, right? I’m just background I was used to having props and not being the prop. But this time I was the prop.

“I think that’s cool,” he added.

Murray also stepped out of his comfort zone for his latest role in the Netflix flick “The Merry Gentlemen,” where he showed off his abs and dancing skills.

“You can’t get out of bed like that,” he said of his physique. “It was one of those things that scared the crap out of me. And I said, if I’m going to do this, I’m going to do it right. You know, you spend half the movie with no shirt on,” he admitted. “(You) need to do what you can to feel comfortable in your own skin.”

While the actor shows a lot of skin in the film, he said that his wife is okay with it.

“She was really supportive. She was like, ‘I’m worried. What are you doing?'”

“When you make a film like this and we’re walking a really fine line, you go too far and it’s a completely different film, isn’t it? And if you don’t go enough, it’s just not fun. I think we’ve really pulled a thread.” The needle. And for that I’m very proud of a film that you can have in the background and it doesn’t feel wrong. Do you know we did a great job? It feels good when my wife saw (it), she’s like, ‘Oh God, you did it, you did it.'”

Murray, who had to dance in the film, said he went through rigorous training like he had never experienced before.

“I just put my head down and said, OK, first of all, let’s get the dancing under control. I’ve never danced professionally, have I? I’ve never done choreographed work before. I’m more of a, you know, kind of dance in your kitchen, maybe a wedding or two, and when that came up I said it scared the crap out of me. I have to do it. Let’s go. It could happen that we dance.
