Man City squanders a three-goal lead in the Champions League, Bayern beats PSG

Manchester City’s woes continued as Pep Guardiola’s side memorably blew a three-goal lead to a 3-3 draw with Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday, while Bayern Munich beat Paris Saint-Germain and the French club was therefore in danger of being eliminated.

There were also big wins for Arsenal, Atlético Madrid, Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen, while Inter Milan were top of the table after five games and Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski scored a century of goals in the Champions League.

But the biggest drama came at the Etihad Stadium, where City ran away with a three-goal lead early in the second half and looked to end a run of five straight defeats in all competitions.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring with a penalty just before half-time, and Ilkay Gündogan’s deflected shot made it 2-0 in the 50th minute.

Haaland struck again to make it 3-0, but Feyenoord’s comeback began in the 75th minute when Anis Hadj Moussa took advantage of unfortunate defending to round goalkeeper Ederson and score.

Substitute Santiago Gimenez scored the equalizer to make it 3-2 in the 82nd minute, with the equalizer coming one minute before the end.

Ederson was caught out again when Igor Paixao rounded the goalkeeper and crossed for Slovakia international David Hancko to head the ball.

“We concede a lot of goals because we are not stable,” complained Guardiola.

“We have lost a lot of games recently. We are vulnerable and of course we need a win.”

It is the first time a team has gone into the final 20 minutes of a Champions League game three goals down and still avoided defeat, as the point boosts the Dutch’s hopes of progressing.

City are two points adrift of the top eight places that allow direct qualification for the round of 16, while Bayern moved above them with a 1-0 win over PSG in Munich.

South Korean defender Kim Min-jae scored the only goal seven minutes before half-time, heading home after goalkeeper Matvei Safonov failed to clear a corner.

PSG had to send off Ousmane Dembele in the second half and the French champions have picked up just four points and three goals in five games.

They sit just 26th in the 36-team league, one point behind the spots that offer a spot in the play-off round in February.

“We have to win our last three games or we risk elimination,” admitted PSG coach Luis Enrique.

Lewandowski scored his 100th goal in the competition with an early penalty in Barcelona’s 3-0 home win over French club Brest.

Dani Olmo scored midway through the second half before Lewandowski secured Barca’s decisive win, his 101st Champions League goal – only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have scored more.

Inter lead the table with 13 points, one point ahead of Barcelona and Liverpool, after a 1-0 home win against RB Leipzig, meaning they are yet to concede a goal either.

Castello Lukeba’s own goal made the difference at the San Siro and Leipzig are one of only three teams to have lost five of five games.

Arsenal celebrated a 5-1 away win at Sporting in Lisbon as the Portuguese side adjust to life without manager Ruben Amorim, who has moved to Manchester United.

Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Magalhaes all scored for Arsenal in the first half before Goncalo Inacio scored shortly after the restart.

Bukayo Saka converted a 65th-minute penalty after Martin Odegaard was brought down and Leandro Trossard headed late on to seal Arsenal’s victory.

Atalanta beat bottom side Young Boys 6-1 in Switzerland, with Mateo Retegui and Charles De Ketelaere scoring two goals each.

Sead Kolasinac and Lazar Samardzic also scored for the Italians, while Silvere Ganvoula provided the hosts’ response.

Florian Wirtz scored twice, including a penalty, and Leverkusen beat Red Bull Salzburg 5-0. Alejandro Grimaldo scored a great free kick and Patrik Schick and Aleix Garcia also scored.

Julian Alvarez and substitute Angel Correa scored twice each and Marcos Llorente and Antoine Griezmann scored a goal each as Atlético cruised to a 6-0 win away to Sparta Prague.

Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao and Tammy Abraham were the scorers in AC Milan’s 3-2 win at Slovan Bratislava, with goals scored by Tigran Barseghyan and Nino Marcelli.

In the end, Marko Tolic saw red for the pointless Slovan.
