This college football season will be head coach Mack Brown’s last at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham informed Brown of the decision on Monday. He will coach the team in Saturday’s season finale against NC State at Kenan Stadium. However, a decision has not yet been made as to whether Brown will coach in a bowl game. “Mack Brown has won more games than any other football coach in UNC history, and we deeply appreciate everything he has done for Carolina football and our university,” Cunningham said. “Over the last six seasons – his second season in Chapel Hill – – He has led our team to six bowl picks, including an Orange Bowl, while also overseeing 18 NFL draft picks. He and his wife Sally have done an outstanding job supporting the Carolina community, including raising funds for UNC Children’s Hospital and hosting other popular events such as the Ladies Day Clinic. Both have provided great leadership for our program even through some incredibly difficult periods, including the tragic death of wide receiver Tylee Craft this season. Cunningham and Chancellor Lee H. Roberts will begin the search for a new head coach. Brown’s contract runs for three years. UNC athletic officials said the remaining payments will be paid by the Department of Athletics and not through state funds. This college football season will be head coach Mack Brown’s last at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
