The Washington Capitals will look to send their dads home happy with another win on their annual mentorship trip.

After defeating the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers 4-1, the Capitals will look to assert their dominance against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena. The Capitals will maintain their forward lines starting Monday but will turn to Charlie Lindgren in net.

According to TNT, this is the first game between the Capitals and Lightning that Alex Ovechkin and Steven Stamkos have not participated in since March 27, 2004.

The Capitals-Lightning game will be broadcast on TNT. The puck drop occurs shortly after 7:30 p.m. No Joe B or Locker. And I’m not grateful for that.

1st period

Puck is dropped.

Tom Wilson chats with Brandon Hagel after the Lightning forward loses his lead and slams into Lindgren. What’s notable is that Darren Pang called him “Chuckie Sideburns.”

Wilson prepared the puck one-time just outside the goal area, but Vasilevskiy parried with the low pad.

🥊 Emil Lilleberg vs Brandon Duhaime. Lilleberg hits Nic Dowd cleanly in the right shoulder as the Caps centerman lowers his head to midfield. Brandon Duhaime immediately challenges Lilleberg to a fight and Emil overwhelms the Caps’ check line on the ice.

🚨 1-0 Tampa Bay Lightning. TBL goal: Brayden Point (13). Assists: J. Güntzel (12). Time: 03:58.

After Dylan Stome loses the ball badly at the point, Guentzel gains possession of the puck over the sideboard and finds the point for a semi-breakaway. After Lindgren tries to push the puck away, Point goes forehand to backhand and easily scores.

The Lightning’s mascot, Thunderbug, sits in a giant gravy boat in the corner behind the glass, lol.

Taylor Raddysh comes into the penalty area for knocking down Guentzel.

TNT shows the suite that features all of the Caps dads…and Alex Alexeyev.

Spencer Carbery was interviewed by Darren Pang with about 8 minutes left and was NOT happy with his team’s play.

🚨 2-0 Tampa Bay Lightning. TBL PPG: Brayden Point (14). Assists: N. Kucherov (21), V. Hedman (15). Time: 12:25.

The point was found with a nice cross seam pass. And he slings it into the open net with ease.

Immediately cuts to the power play after the TBL goal. Lilleberg comes into the box at 1:05 p.m. to save.

In the break: The Lightning lead 2-0. The Capitals outscored the Lightning 10 to 8 and outscored them 14 to 13 in five-on-five play. But there isn’t much fight in their game.

2nd period

Puck is dropped.

Anthony Cirelli blocks a shot with his foot and leaves the game.

The capitals are alive!

🚨 2-1 Tampa Bay Lightning. WSH goal: Andrew Mangiapane (5). Assists: L. Eller (5), H. Lapierre (5). Time: 10:31.

Mangiapane brings a one-time shot from Lars Eller over Vasilevskiy.

🚨 2-2 draw. WSH SHG: Aliaksei Protas (8). Assists: T Wilson (10). Time: 12:29.

Protas cleanly beats Vasilevskiy with a shot on the short side. Wilson made the play possible by taking the puck out of the zone and pushing it down the right wing despite being held. That’s two goals in 1:58 for the Caps.

🚨 3-2 Tampa Bay Lightning. TBL goal: Michael Eyssimont (13). Assists: Z. Girgensons (2). Time: 19:16.

Eyssimont makes a rally behind the net and beats Lindgren, who was looking away, to the post. With 43.4 seconds left, it’s difficult to give up the goal.

In the break: The Lightning led 3-2 but were outscored 2-1 at halftime. The Capitals outscored the Lightning 19 to 17 and outscored them 29 to 26 in five-on-five play.

3rd period

Puck is dropped. Cirelli is back on the bench for Tampa.

Tom Wilson has a good chance to start the quarter.

🚨 3-3 draw. WSH goal: Dylan Strome (7). Assists: T. Raddysh (6), A. Protas (12). Time: 01:37.

Dylan Strome equalizes after terrible free defense from Nikita Kucherov leaves him wide open. Raddysh simply put the puck right on his blade and scored the gimme goal in a two-on-one.

🚨 4-3 Tampa Bay Lightning. TBL goal (own goal): Brayden Point (15). Without support. Time: 07:25.

Own goal: Charlie Lindgren hits a backhand into his own net to give Brayden Point a bizarre hat-trick

Charlie Lindgren scores with the backhand ON HIS OWN GOAL, giving Point a hat trick. What the fuck. Lindgren then takes the goal puck and shoots it into the crowd.

🚨 4:4 draw. WSH goal: John Carlson (3). Without support. Time: 10:30.

Carlson shoots the puck from his own zone, past several Lightning defenders, and beats Vasilevskiy on the other side.

According to Darren Pang, Dylan Strome lost two bottom teeth after being knocked up by Anthony Cirelli near the net. Capitalize on a four-minute power play. Strome is on the ice to start it.

🚨 5-4 Tampa Bay Lightning. WSH-PPG: Tom Wilson (15). Assists: J. Chychrun (6), D. Strome (24). Time: 16:34.

Incredible redirect from Wilson.

Tampa draws Vasilevskiy.

Tom Wilson blocks a huge shot from Bradon Hagel. Martin Fehervary blocks Brayden Point’s final attempt.

The Capitals win 5:4 and overcome Lindgren’s own goal.
