Larian wasn't kidding when he said it's "not quite ready yet": The Baldur's Gate 3 update will add 12 new subclasses, crossplay, photo mode, and more "next year."

Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios recently hinted that the acclaimed RPG was “not quite finished yet,” and today it was proven that it wasn’t a joke.

We’ve known for a while that Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 wouldn’t be the game’s final update, but aside from crossplay and photo mode, we had no clues as to what to expect. Now Larian has released a detailed overview of the big changes coming with the release of Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 sometime “next year.”

The big new highlight of the patch are the 12 new subclasses, one for each existing class, providing a new way to play your favorite class. “Expect new abilities, animations, VFX, summons and cantrips, as well as unique spoken dialogue lines for the Oathbreaker Knight with written reactivity for Oathbreakers, along with a touch of homebrewing on certain actions to enhance your roleplaying experience,” said Larian.

College of Glamor grants bards the Mantle of Inspiration spell, which grants five temporary hit points to allies and enchants attacking enemies while the spell is active. Meanwhile, Mantle of Majesty targets enchanted enemies and lets you command them to flee, get closer, freeze, fall to the ground, or drop their weapon.

The new Barbarian subclass, Path of Giants, will increase throwing attack damage and carrying capacity with the new passive ability, Giant’s Rage. Death Domain is the new Cleric subclass and adds new spells that deal necrotic damage, as well as three new necromancy cantrips, including Toll of the Dead, which deals 1-8 damage depending on how much the enemy is already hurting was scaled. Death Domain also has the homegrown ability to cause nearby corpses to explode with AoE damage.

In the meantime, Druids can opt for the new Circle of Stars subclass, which allows you to take on one of three star forms for your power: the Archer, Chalice, and Dragon constellations, each tailored to different playstyles and strategies.

Paladins can look forward to the new Oath of the Crown subclass, which will allow you to “lead your companions in battle with righteous clarity, taunt enemies with strategic interruptions, and keep your party strong with divine loyalty by reducing their damage absorb while restoring their strength.” Health.”

Fighters can now enjoy the Arcane Archer lifestyle with “unique abilities in addition to new shooting animations.” With this subclass, fighters are able to immediately remove enemies from the battlefield for a turn or deal psychic damage that forces them to make a Wisdom saving throw or remain blinded until the start of their next turn.

Monks may have the most fun with Patch 8, thanks to the new Drunken Master subclass, which allows them to drink alcohol directly from their inventory and from bottles lying around the Sword Coast to regain Ki. Monks can also make their enemies drunk and increase their armor class and chance of hitting drunken targets.

Rangers can choose the Hive Guardian subclass and cast Cloud of Jellyfish for additional lightning damage, Storm of Moths for psychic damage, and Legion of Bees for piercing damage.

With the new Swashbuckler subclass, villains will soon be able to enjoy the “pirate life”. It offers the ability to throw sand at enemies and blind them, hurl your weapon at targets to disarm them, and use the new passive Fancy Footwork in melee combat to ensure that enemies are not attacked for the remainder of the player’s turn Be able to carry out attacks of opportunity.

The new caster subclass, Shadow Magic, provides superior darkvision and the ability to travel in the shadows between dark and dimly lit spaces. Meanwhile, “the perfectly home-brewed Hound of Ill Omen” lets you harass your enemies, and “Strength of the Grave” prevents you from being knocked down. Larian emphasized that this is “ideal for those trying to run in honor mode.”

Warlocks can choose the new Hexblade subclass if they wish to “form a pact with an entity from the Shadowfell that manifests itself in the form of magical weapons.” This will allow Hexblade Warlocks to curse their enemies and “force their souls to obey your commands.”

You can also awaken the spirit of any corpse for 10 rounds, as long as it was not “an element of nature, a construct, a giant lump, or already dead.” Summons deal necrotic damage and “rip out a piece of your enemy’s soul to provide healing to your Hexblade Warlock.”

Finally, the new wizard subclass “Bladesinging” will add new casting animations and the new ability “Bladesong,” which grants “supernatural speed, agility, and concentration” and gives you a bonus to every Constitution check you make.

Patch 8 will also add “full cross-platform progression” and crossplay on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S, allowing everyone to play and progress together no matter what platform they are on.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Photo Mode is another long-awaited feature coming with Patch 8, and now we have the details. You can set up scenes by selecting the characters you want to focus on and adjusting the position of the camera. Meanwhile, the lens settings allow you to adjust field of view, exposure, depth of field and focus.

Scene Settings give you the ability to turn off player characters, NPCs, and enemies when you’re not using them in your shot, and you can choose from preset facial expressions and a range of over 40 static and animated facial expression poses, each with multiple variations. Finally, you have all kinds of post-processing effects, frames and stickers at your disposal to create your picture-perfect picture.
