Ben Affleck bonds with ex-wife Jennifer Garner on Thanksgiving while Jennifer Lopez goes through divorce: ‘He’s very happy’ “You could hear the bang, bang, bang,” witnesses recall of their experiences during the Park Plaza Mall shooting

Special Counsel Jack Smith officially closed his investigation into convicted felon and President-elect Donald Trump this week, and for “The View” host Joy Behar, the move is a clear sign that “there is no such thing as karma.”

The ABC hosts discussed the move at the start of Tuesday’s “Hot Topics” show, with Behar joking that the idea of consequences for Trump now feels like a mythical creature.

“It kind of shows you that there’s no such thing as karma, doesn’t it? I mean, it’s like the Easter Bunny and affordable housing – it doesn’t exist!” she said. “I mean, I feel like we’re going to get him out at some point. But it will take a while and let’s hope he doesn’t do too much damage.”

That optimism continued for Behar, however, as she added that she hopes and suspects that Republicans in Congress will “step in” to block certain policies simply “because they will impact it.”

Meanwhile, host Sunny Hostin was equally frustrated with the dismissal of the case, reiterating that this was Trump’s goal all along.

“I firmly believe that part of the reason he ran for president again was because he wanted to, so to speak, take money out of the government, which is what he did the first time,” she said . “He ran to avoid prison! That’s what he did, if we’re being honest, okay?”

However, the host and former federal prosecutor added that she doesn’t blame Merrick Garland or Jack Smith, telling viewers that in her experience as a prosecutor, such cases take two to four years to try. Trump started 2022, and he was running out of time.

“The statute of limitations will probably run out when he’s done, so he did what he wanted to do,” she said.

“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
