Jets vs. Golden Knights prediction, tips and odds for today’s NHL game

The two division leaders of the Western Conference meet in a scaled duel: The Winnipeg Jets visit the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday, November 29th at the T-Mobile Arena.

My Jets vs. Golden Knights predictions are that Winnipeg winger Nikolaj Ehlers will have better puck luck in Sin City on Black Friday.

My Jets analysis
Nikolaj Ehlers is second in both shots (9.81) and attempts (17.82) per 60 minutes while logging the fourth-most minutes per game (15:57) among Winnipeg Jets forwards.

He runs on the No. 1 power play unit and is also third in shots (11.66) and second in attempts (22.42) per 60 with the man advantage.

I’m particularly drawn to this Ehlers prop because he’s taken two or fewer shots in six of the last eight games, for a total of just 18. What’s more, nine of those shots came in the two games in which he went over the number.

However, he actually shoots the puck more.

Ehlers recorded 19.35 attempts per 60 minutes during the eight-game stretch, compared to just 16.98 per 60 in 15 games earlier in the year. The difference was that he converted 62.7% of his attempts into shots early in the campaign, compared to just 42.9% of his attempts resulting in shots over the last eight years.

Since the 28-year-old winger is also in the 91st percentile of forwards in shots on goal according to NHL Edge, I expect improved shooting efficiency starting Friday.

There’s nothing scary about a date with the Vegas Golden Knights either.

The Golden Knights have a Corsi-For percentage of 46.4 that ranks 26th at 5-on-5, and Vegas has been even better lately with a 28th-ranked 45.8% over the last five games even worse.

Ehlers has also posted a team-high 54.3 CF% at 5-on-5 over the last three years, so he will tilt the ice in his favor on Friday.

It doesn’t surprise me that Winnipeg is taking early action on finances. Vegas opened as the home favorite at Pinnacle at -112, but the odds have changed and Winnipeg is listed at -113 as of Friday morning.

The Golden Knights have the highest PDO in the NHL over the last five games, and in addition to their notoriously poor possession numbers at 5-on-5, they also fail to impress with a 24th-place expected goals-goals rating of 47.0.

There was also a big substitution in this game. Pinnacle opened at 6.0 (-118/+103), and there was a similar odds change. The 6.0 total is trading at a -100/-113 split on Friday morning.

Winnipeg is allowing the second-fewest goals per game (2.43) and has gone to the under in four straight games, increasing line movement.
