Jennifer Hudson comments on work dynamics with Beau Common

Jennifer Hudson is in awe of working with her boyfriend Common, despite the challenges it brings.

The 43-year-old singer and actress was promoting her new holiday album The gift of love during Thursday’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyerswhere she raved about a song Almost Christmas that she and Common, 52, worked together.

“I mean, we’re both very musical,” Hudson told host Seth Meyers of the track. “Two Chicagoans, and I asked myself, ‘Where’s the poetry and storytelling in the Christmas albums?’ And who could do that better than him? For example, write spoken word poetry during the holidays? And that’s where the song came from.”

The dream girl star noted that despite their love of collaborating, the couple’s musical partnership can come with little complications. “He’s a little bossy when it comes to being Common,” she said of Common.

“Common and Rashid are two different people musically, but he is a musical genius, so it’s an honor to be able to work with him, for him, with him and on his and my album,” Hudson said on the show.

Hudson and Common have collaborated on musical endeavors before, most notably on the song A god (exists)from Common’s album The Auditorium Vol. 1., which was released in July.

The rapper couldn’t help but rave about Hudson’s vocals. “When I played it for musician friends, they asked, ‘Who’s singing?’ I think, ‘That’s Jennifer!’ “It doesn’t sound like anything you’ve heard from her before,” he said People at the time.

“I love that we were able to utilize their gifts in a new space. She brought it, man.”

The two first sparked dating rumors in 2022 following the announcement of their film Breathe and then seemingly confirmed their relationship in January The Jennifer Hudson Show.
