Second half, 3:00 left: Auburn 77, Iowa State 73

The Cyclones’ offense is gone and they don’t have much time to find it.

Iowa State made just six of its 21 shots in the second half. The Cyclones went nearly five minutes without a field goal. Two missed free throws from Tamin Lipsey (both just hitting the rim) didn’t help.

Auburn is on a 7-0 run and has all the momentum. Iowa State is looking for stops and needs someone to heat up.

Second half, 7:49 left: Iowa State 71, Auburn 66

Four fouls for Iowa State’s Keshon Gilbert. This is huge. He will sit for a while. He made two free throws just before securing the No. 4 spot. Gilbert was the Cyclones’ best player tonight (17 points).

Then Tamin Lipsey scored a layup to give the Cyclones a five-point lead before the media timeout.

Feels like a game that benefits the team making their free throws in the final eight minutes. Auburn is 16 of 20 from the foul line; Iowa State 16 of 19.

Second half, 11:18 left: Iowa State 60, Auburn 57

We’ve got a ball game here, folks.

Iowa State was in collapse mode there for a while before Curtis Jones and Milan Momcilovic stopped the bleeding with baskets.

Second half, 16:00 left: Iowa State 51, Auburn 44

We knew Auburn would escape, and here we are.

The Tigers’ 9-0 run cut the lead to seven. They outscored the Cyclones 11-2 in four minutes of the second half.

Iowa State’s Dishon Jackson was called for a flagrant foul after giving an Auburn player a small shove as he attempted to escape. However, Dylan Cardwell missed both free throws, so things could have been worse for the Cyclones.

Let’s see how the Cyclones, if we’re honest, respond to the first adversity they’ve faced so far this season.

8:56 p.m. CT

Halftime: Iowa State 49, Auburn 33

Bold move by TJ Otzelberger to bring Keshon Gilbert back into the game despite two fouls. Gilbert made his coach look like a genius by scoring two big baskets and deftly drawing a foul in the final minutes of the first half. He led Iowa State with 10 points.

A beautiful fadeaway by Milan Momcilovic with 3 seconds left sends Iowa State into the locker room with a comfortable 16-point lead.

Great balance from the Cyclones. Eight players scored points, and only Gilbert was in double figures.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in Bruce Pearl’s Auburn locker room.

First half stats

First half, 2:38 left: Iowa State 41, Auburn 27

Wow, what an impressive half so far for the Cyclones. This is incredible. Take the shots they want and take them. Force turnovers and make things difficult for Auburn’s offense.

It would be shocking if Auburn didn’t pull back and make a game out of it, but things are looking good for Iowa State right now.

Also: Great drive and dunk attempt by Nojus Indrusaitis, who was fouled and made both free throws.

Foul problem: Auburn’s Chaney Johnson picked up his third foul at 4:18. He averages 12.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Iowa State’s Tamin Lipsey was hit with his second foul a few seconds later. Keshon Gilbert, Lipsey’s backcourt mate, also committed two fouls. Curtis Jones leads the point.

A 10-0 run by the Cyclones, including 3-pointers from Curtis Jones and Milan Momcilovic, forced Auburn coach Bruce Pearl to call a timeout.

Something to note: Chad Baker-Mazara left the game with what appeared to be a knee injury. He is one of Auburn’s best players. Big loss if he can’t return.

Saint Mary’s transfer Joshua Jefferson made his first 3-point basket of the season for Iowa State. He also has two early assists.
