“Inter win similar to 1-0 against Arsenal, but new injury worrying”

Hakan Calhanoglu saw similarities between Inter’s 1-0 win over RB Leipzig and the one against Arsenal but admits his recent injuries have been “concerning”.

It was far more difficult than expected at San Siro, as they ultimately only got the points because Castello Lukeba accidentally directed Federico Dimarco’s free-kick into their own goal.

Nonetheless, it was enough for a 1-0 win and they remain at the top of the Champions League table with 13 points and await Liverpool’s result tomorrow night.

“We are happy, it is another great result for us to stay up there,” Calhanoglu told Inter TV.

“Perhaps we should have scored more goals given all our performances, but at the end of the day, like against Arsenal, we held the line and proved that we also do well defensively.”

Inter is the only team in the Champions League that has not conceded a single goal so far. In the opening game they beat Manchester City 0-0 and then won five times in a row.

Apart from the 4-0 win against Crvena Zvezda, the last three games ended 1-0 against Young Boys, Arsenal and RB Leipzig.

“We created a lot of chances in the first half, but Leipzig are a strong team with a lot of pressing and they caused us even more problems after the break, but tonight it was the result that counted.”

Calhanoglu returned to the starting lineup this evening after suffering another muscle problem while on international duty with Turkey.

This becomes a recurring problem for the midfielder, who begins to struggle with the endless game plan.

“I was happy to be back because two injuries to the same leg were worrying. I hope to be able to continue playing without pain,” he added.

“We always have to be ready and keep going.”
