Inter record most consecutive Champions League wins since Mourinho in 2010 – Football Italia

Inter won their fourth straight Champions League game with a 1-0 home win against RB Leipzig on Tuesday evening. It was the first time the club had won four games in a row in the competition since they last won the whole thing back in 2010 under Jose Mourinho.

A set piece from Federico Dimarco was converted into the only goal of the game by Leipzig central defender Castello Lukeba. The Nerazzurri are also the only remaining team in the competition who have not conceded a goal in the Champions League so far this season.

Inter have not won four or more Champions League games in a row since 2010.

The Nerazzurri began the 2024-25 season with a 0-0 draw away against Manchester City, then picked up a 4-0 home win against Red Star, a 1-0 away win against Young Boys and another 1-0 Home win against Arsenal and most recently the 1-0 win over RB Leipzig.

Although Inter advanced to the final in the 2022/23 season, they did not win more than two games in a row.

Their best performance this season came in the group stage with back-to-back wins against Viktoria Pilsen and Barcelona and again with a brace of 2-0 and 1-0 in the all-Italian semi-final against rivals Milan.

Inter never made it past the round of 16 in any season between 2018 and 2022 and did not win the Champions League more than twice in a row in any of those seasons.

The Nerazzurri won three times in a row in the group stage of the 2011/12 edition before being eliminated by Marseille.

The 2010–11 season ended in the quarter-finals, against Bayern Munich in a rematch of the previous season’s final, but two consecutive wins in the group stage were Inter’s best run of consecutive wins of the season.

The last time Inter won four or more games in a row in the Champions League was in the victorious 2009/10 season.

Mourinho led the Nerazzurri to six consecutive wins this year, winning his final group stage game against Rubin Kazan, then both round of 16 games against Chelsea, both quarter-final games against CSKA Moscow and finally a 3-1 win against Barcelona in the first leg of the semi-final.

Barcelona won the second leg 1-0, still enough for Inter to qualify for the final, before beating Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Bernabeu and giving the club its third ever Champions League or European Cup trophy secured, the youngest to date.
