After 13 years, the biggest interstate rivalry is back on the schedule: The No. 3 Texas Longhorns travel to College Station to take on the No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies. This matchup is about much more than just bragging rights, as an appearance in the SEC Championship Game and a berth in the College Football Playoff are on the line. Defenses will likely be the focus in this matchup as both teams look for success on that side of the ball.

Can Texans defenders contain Marcel Reed? Can Texas A&M’s defense make things uncomfortable for a struggling Quinn Ewers due to an injured ankle and hinder the offense? The answers to these questions will determine who travels to Atlanta to face the Georgia Bulldogs for the SEC title.

“Run Ricky Run” and “Justin Tucker Walk It Off” are the two moments that immediately stand out to me. Ricky Williams going into beast mode in Austin is one of my earliest memories of this rivalry from my childhood, while the Tucker kick has been etched in my mind for over a decade.

It was definitely a relief to see the running game gain more prominence last week compared to the games against Arkansas and Florida where they seemed to get eaten up in the backfield. Texas A&M doesn’t necessarily have the same level of difficulty as Georgia or Arkansas, but it will be another X-factor that allows the rest of the offense to thrive.
