Looking at the hit CBS sitcom, it’s obvious that GhostsYou must be able to suspend disbelief. Of course, there is no logical reason why Sam (Rose McIver) might suddenly see ghosts after hitting her head, or that the ghosts can walk through walls but use the stairs instead of floating through the ceiling. All of these aspects combine to make a fantastically silly (and always entertaining) show. But There is an element of the series that is a bit confusing (and that needs to be addressed in the upcoming show).

How do the boundaries work in “Ghosts”?

From the very first episode of GhostsIt was said that these special spirits all live in Woodstone Mansion because This is the place of her death. The very different spirits of different generations are trapped together because they all met their maker in the same place. Over the course of four seasons, some new ghosts were introduced, such as Nigel (John Hartman), who lived in a shed on the premises, and Patience (Maria Holland), who actually lived beneath the Woodstone property.

These ghosts are introduced because exploration of the surrounding areas around the mansion is allowed. However, it has always been believed that the ghosts cannot truly leave the confines of the Woodstone estate and are simply stuck where they died. Due to Pete’s (Richie Moriarty) newfound ghost power in Season 3. He can cross Woodstone’s property lines and travel wherever he wants (causing much jealousy from the other ghosts). But this plot twist just has raised even more questions about how the spirit boundaries actually work.

There are some inconsistencies in the “Ghosts” universe

Most assume that the ghosts are simply stuck where they died, which is the Woodstone compound. But spirits like Thor (Devan Chandler Long) and Sasappis (Roman Zaragoza) lived before the Woodstone Mansion was even built. They most likely lived in tents or huts in the countryside. So, If Woodstone hasn’t been properly built yet, what keeps it stuck in this particular place? Maybe it works that they can’t stray too far from where they were when they died, but there seems to be a gray area here. What’s stopping Thor and Sasappis from moving more freely around Woodstone? They probably would have explored much of this landscape during their lifetime, but in the series they pretty much always stay in the house or in the front yard of the property.

And then the biggest inconsistency seems to be between Thor and his son Björn (Christian Jadah). Björn has been stuck on the nearby Farnsby property for hundreds of years. The property is directly across the street from Woodstone (close enough that the two can yell at each other from the upstairs windows of each house). But how could the two be close enough to call to each other from their respective properties, but not close enough for them to meet? Of course it’s funnier when the two of them communicate this way, but it actually opens a plot hole for the series. If no houses were being built at the time Thor and Björn roamed the Earth, it stands to reason that their paths could cross today if they wanted to. How could there even be property lines separating them if there were no properties back then?

The Ghosts Writers need to do something to address this confusing element. Maybe the ghosts need to explain to a new ghost how these boundaries actually work (as if there was some kind of radius limiting them to the exact location where they died). Or perhaps they can elaborate on the idea of energy limits varying from spirit to spirit, which could explain why some spirits are only allowed to travel short distances (and would provide a clue as to why Thor and Björn can’t meet in person). The spirits should at least have a conversation about what they think the boundaries are so that there is some clarity. Even if the Woodstone ghosts only hint that they don’t know why these boundaries exist (and that perhaps there is a higher power at play controlling them), it would tie up these loose ends that are frustrating for viewers.
