Angélica Rivera, the former first lady of Mexico, returns to acting and stars in the new series of Vix With this Misma Mirada.

After 17 years since her last acting role, Rivera returns to TelevisaUnivision to star in a new adaptation of the Colombian soap Senora Isabel.

“With all my heart,” Rivera posted on Instagram along with a teaser for the new series.

With this Misma Mirada is based on Bernardo Romero Pereiro’s story about a woman in her 50s whose husband leaves after she has an affair with a younger woman. As she copes with the loss of her marriage, she meets a younger man who gives her hope of feeling loved again.

The story became a phenomenon in Mexico when TV Azteca and Argos adapted it in 1997 with the title Mirada de Mujer (“Look of a Woman”). Since then it has been adapted several times. Telemundo filmed its remake as Victoria in 2007, starring Victoria Ruffo, and TelevisaUnivision adapted it as Victoria in 2021 Si Nos Dejan (“If they leave us”). The last adaptation took place in 2023 by the Colombian RCN with the telenovela Ana de Nadie.

Rivera is a well-known actress in Mexico who has starred in titles such as Dulce Desafio (1988), Simplemente Maria (1989), My little Soledad (1990) and La Pícara Soñadora (1991). In 1991 she starred in Alcanzar Una Estrella II, in which she starred alongside Ricky Martin.

She celebrated her greatest success in 1995 with the leading role in “ La Duena as Regina Villareal. The telenovela was a huge hit in Mexico and she named one of her daughters after her fictional character.

Rivera’s last acting role was in 2007 Destilando Amor, where she played Gaviota. The character was so popular that Mexican media referred to Rivera as Gaviota.

In 2010, she married the governor of the state of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, and retired from acting that same year. Nieto became President of Mexico in 2012 and Rivera assumed the responsibilities as First Lady of Mexico. Rivera and Nieto divorced in 2019, shortly after his term as president ended.

Rivera had been courted to return to television, but it wasn’t until this project with Vix that she accepted it.
