ATHENS – Georgia had a 93 percent chance of reaching the College Football Playoff as its game against Georgia Tech kicked off, according to ESPN.

The No. 7 Bulldogs are trying to stop a determined Yellow Jackets team that upset previously undefeated ACC favorite Miami earlier this season.

Going into the game, the Bulldogs knew all they had to do to secure a CFP spot was a win in the SEC championship game on Dec. 7 against the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 3 Texas and No. 20 Texas A&M is.

ESPN projects that Georgia has a 97 percent chance of getting into the CFP field with a win over the Yellow Jackets, even if it loses in the SEC Championship Game.

The Bulldogs secured a spot in the Dec. 7 4 p.m. game against the winner of the Texas at Texas A&M game.

Losses to Georgia Tech and in the SEC title game would cut Georgia’s playoff chances to just 17 percent.

The Longhorns, playing the Aggies for the first time since 2011, have a 97 percent chance of reaching the CFP Field of 12.

Tennessee, ranked No. 8 and ending its season Saturday at Vanderbilt, has a 77 percent chance of making the field.

ESPN projected No. 13 Alabama has a 22 percent chance of sliding into the field and No. 15 South Carolina has a 17 percent chance.

The Crimson Tide hosts Auburn on Saturday, while South Carolina concludes its season at Clemson on Saturday.

Ole Miss, ranked 14th, capped its season earlier this afternoon with a 26-14 win over its in-state rival, Mississippi State, in a game played in temperatures in the low 80s.

It was 41 degrees at Sanford Stadium and a 9 mph wind as Georgia entered Georgia Tech as 17-point favorites.
