We’ve taken a first look at some shots from Alien: Earth via a Disney+ promo last week, and FX/Hulu has now released a new teaser and poster for Noah Hawley’s highly anticipated series.

The promo features only a few brief shots of what has been described as a “new generation” of Xenomorph, but confirms the series’ summer 2025 premiere date while revealing a major change to the previously established schedule.

We thought the series would take place a full three decades before Ridley Scott’s Foreignerbut this teaser reveals that it will actually take place in 2120 – just two years before the events of the original film.

We’re not sure how significant this will be, but is there a chance we could see some sort of retcon? Because if an alien ship with xenos on board had crashed on Earth a few years before Ripley and the crew of the Nostromo would set off on their fateful mission, they would almost certainly have known about it.

Check out the new teaser and poster, as well as a more detailed synopsis, below.

“When a mysterious spaceship crashes on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that confronts them with the planet’s greatest threat. As members of the recovery team search the rubble for survivors, they encounter mysterious predatory life forms more terrifying than they could have ever imagined. With this new threat unraveled, the search team must fight for survival, and what they choose to do with this discovery could change planet Earth as they know it.”

When speaking with deadline On the red carpet at this year’s Emmy Awards, Hawley announced a “terrifying” new version of the alien.

“There is something special about seeing a xenomorph with your own eyes in the wilds of Earth. It’s truly frightening to think of it moving here among us, and so I can’t tell you under what circumstances you will see it, but you will see it – and you will lock your door that night. What I really enjoyed was really engaging with the creature and bringing some of my own thoughts into the design without touching the silhouette, because that is sacrosanct.”

“But some of the elements, as we know, determine whatever the host is, what the final creature is.” he added. “I just wanted to play around a bit to make it as scary as it should be.”

It doesn’t sound like this new creature design will be any different to deviates greatly from the original, but Hawley’s comments definitely suggest that we’ll see a face-hugger attach itself to a non-human host.

This has only happened once in the franchise so far (unless you count the Proto-Xeno that evolved from the Engineer in Prometheus). Alien 3 introduced the divisive “Dog-Buster” (although it was an ox in the Assembly Cut), so it’ll be very interesting to find out what Hawley has in store here.

In addition to Chandler, the series’ extensive international cast includes Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar – El.
