Ryan Garcia wants to fight in Japan on New Year’s Eve. RIZIN FF wants him to fight in Japan on New Year’s Eve. But is there anyone they forgot to ask?

On the day Garcia and his NYE opponent Rukiya Anpo squared off in Los Angeles to promote their fight at RIZIN 49: Decade, Golden Boy Promotions head Oscar De La Hoya reached out to X (formerly Twitter ) to remind everyone that Garcia is under contract with him.

“Golden Boy Promotions has exclusive rights to Ryan Garcia’s fights,” De La Hoya wrote. “The organizers of this event have taken note of this and agreed in writing that our consent is required for this event to take place.”

“As such clearance has not yet occurred, there will be no event with Ryan Garcia to date.”

Garcia vs. Anpo is promoted in the United States by Fanmio, which was behind the Logan Paul vs. Floyd Mayweather show and, more recently, the Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal boxing match. This event was a huge success at the gate, but not so much on the pay-per-view. Shortly after the show, Diaz sued Fanmio, claiming they were screwing him out of $9 million.

Now Fanmio could find themselves in the crosshairs of another lawsuit if they fail to reach a deal with Golden Boy… a deal that we suspect won’t be very beneficial considering the publicity machine already has it is in motion and Oscar has a deal in hand a lot of leverage.

De La Hoya and Garcia also don’t get along in the past, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the deal fall through even if there’s more than enough money. Given what we’ve seen from Garcia, De La Hoya and Fanmio in the past, we’re almost expecting this fight to fall through in the coming days.

As for RICIN? We’re sure they’d rather take the fight than not, but out of all of Garcia’s performances, they’ve already gotten a lot of attention for their New Year’s Eve show RIZIN 49: Decade. Not having to pay him for it almost sounds like a bargain.
