More than 10,000 cartons of organic eggs sold at Costco stores are being recalled due to concerns about possible salmonella contamination.

Handsome Brook Farms, a New York-based organic egg supplier, said the organic, pasture-raised eggs would be sold in 24-count quantities under the Kirkland Signature brand. The eggs were distributed to 25 Costco locations in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee starting Nov. 22, the company said.

The recalled units include numbers 327 and P1363 and a best before date of January 5, 2025.

The company said the eggs were not intended for retailers but were incorrectly packaged and distributed. To prevent something like this from happening again, additional controls and retraining have been introduced, the company said.

Handsome Brook Farms says there have been no reported illnesses associated with the recall. Salmonella can cause serious infections, especially in children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting.

People who purchased the recalled eggs should throw them away or stop using them and return them to Costco for a full refund.

This egg recall is separate from another recent outbreak of salmonella in eggs that resulted in a reported 93 illnesses and 34 hospitalizations in 12 states. These eggs from Milo’s poultry farms can no longer be found on store shelves.
