Rain or shine, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade continues.

According to the latest weather forecasts from Fox and NBC, New York City is expected to rain during the 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on Thursday, November 28th. According to the department store chain, around 3.5 million people flock to the annual event The Parade Route to watch the spectacle live and 30 million people watch from home.

But will there still be a parade despite the bad weather?

Fortunately, the parade, which will feature top-class artists, will take place even if it rains, a spokesman said The New York Post. However, if the wind becomes too strong, many of the large character balloons will not be allowed to fly.

Based on city guidelines enacted in 1998 after a spectator at the parade was injured by a balloon that crashed into a lamppost, no oversized balloons are allowed to operate when sustained wind speeds exceed 23 miles per hour or wind gusts exceed 34 miles per hour.

But that doesn’t mean spectators can’t see the fun balloons in the parade, including, for the first time, Smokey Bear, Stuart the Minion, SpongeBob SquarePants, The Pillsbury Doughboy, Ronald McDonald and Minnie Mouse.

Fox reports that winds on Thursday should be light at around 5 to 10 mph, well below the 23 mph limit.

PEOPLE reached out to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for more information but did not immediately receive a response.

According to NBC, the rain is expected to begin early this morning and continue throughout the day. Therefore, those planning to watch the parade in person should be appropriately dressed for wet and cold weather.

PEOPLE previously reported that the U.S. may see a “white Thanksgiving” as winter weather intensifies across the country throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center (WPC).

According to WPC, it will likely be a “wet” and “unsettled” Thanksgiving and holiday weekend for many, especially on the East Coast.
