Jon Benét Ramsey‘s death – and the ongoing murder investigation – have been difficult for her brother, Burke Ramseywho preferred not to speak about her or the case.

“Burke doesn’t talk about the case. Always. He doesn’t talk about JonBenét at all. It’s not a topic of conversation in the family and he never reveals anything about her,” a Ramsey family source exclusively said Us weekly before the Netflix release Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey? on Monday, November 24th.

The insider recalled that Burke was touched by any mention of JonBenét, adding, “When he was younger, even her name annoyed him because it was really painful and he didn’t know what to do with it.” And By the time he was in high school, he knew every whisper.”

As the search for JonBenét’s killer continues decades later, Burke has decided to step down.

“He doesn’t read anything about the case, doesn’t watch anything about it. When he sees a program about it, he changes the channel. He has absolutely no interest in watching any of the documentaries,” the source continued. “He won’t watch (the Netflix). Absolutely not. It’s triggering for him and doesn’t do him any good.”

Burke was 9 years old when his 6-year-old sister was found dead in the basement of their Colorado home. She had suffered a fractured skull and a chokehold was tied around her neck. JonBenét’s official cause of death was asphyxia due to strangulation combined with traumatic brain injury, and her death was ruled a homicide.

Boulder police investigated many suspects over the years. JonBenét and Burke’s parents, scapegoat And John Ramseywere even named as persons of interest in the case, and in 1999 a grand jury decided to indict the couple. However, the indictment was never signed by the Boulder District Attorney due to a lack of evidence. The couple was exonerated in 2008 when investigators used tests to determine that the DNA found in JonBenét’s body came from an unrelated man.

Three years after JonBenét’s death, Boulder police and the district attorney publicly stated that Burke was not a suspect, but online detectives continued to spread unsubstantiated theories about him.

On Paramount+’s JonBenét Ramsey Show, people are talking about how much the cast resembles their real-life counterparts. The upcoming eight-episode limited series will explore the Ramsey family before and after JonBenét’s murder in 1996. JonBenét Ramsey focuses specifically on parents John and Patsy as they struggle with the loss of their child while an investigation questions their involvement in (…).

“Burke had a very painful and very lonely upbringing,” the insider said Us. “The family tried very hard to protect him, but you can’t protect a child from the fact that his sister was murdered and everyone thinks his family was responsible. Or that he did.”

Burke and his family also weren’t happy about how long it took for police to publicly confirm his innocence.

“He spent his formative years investigating and the police knew all along that the DNA wasn’t his but didn’t want to release it,” the family member noted of the evidence found on JonBenét’s body. “What the Boulder police did to (John and Patsy) was reprehensible, but what they did to Burke is unforgivable. You were complicit in destroying the life of a vulnerable little boy.”

Burke once commented in a revealing interview with Dr. Phil in 2016. That same year, he sued CBS for $750 million after the docuseries “The Case Of” accused him of killing his sister. The defamation lawsuit was settled in 2019 and Burke has not spoken publicly since then, but he did release a statement for the latest Netflix documentary.

“Citing his treatment by the media and online web sleuths, Burke Ramsey declined our request for an interview,” a message at the end of said Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey?.

According to the family, Burke continued to maintain a relationship with his loved ones.

“He meets with (his father John) sometimes and they talk about things,” the insider shared, noting that JonBenét is the only topic Burke doesn’t talk about. “That’s not on the table. If we brought it up he would just shut down. He doesn’t want to talk about it. Always.”
